The Board of Directors is the highest governing body of the Natural History Museum and bears strategic responsibility for the museum. The Board of Directors represents the NMZ both internally and externally and generally consists of five members:
- The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
- The institute directors of the four institutes involved
